Where it says it works

The organization states it is "the official destination marketing organization (DMO) for Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, Virginia," established in 2018 by act of Virginia's General Assembly (Va. Code Sec. 58.1-603.2) and functioning as "a public body and an advisory board to the legislative branch of state government." Its board includes elected officials from the City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County, plus Colonial Williamsburg, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Busch Gardens, Jamestown Rediscovery, the Williamsburg Hotel & Motel Association, the Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Tourism Corporation.

Verification note

PHONE AND EMAIL BOTH DIFFER FROM THE FILE: the published general number is (757) 229-6511 and the general address is info@visitwilliamsburg.com; the state's (757) 715-4275 and edward.harris@visitwilliamsburg.com appear nowhere on the site. The CEO is listed as "Edward Harris," not "Ed Harris." The staff directory publishes no individual emails or phone numbers. Offices at 421 N Boundary Street, Williamsburg, VA 23185. COVERAGE OVERLAP: Visit Williamsburg names Yorktown as one of its three destinations, while York County Tourism (DMO-137) markets Historic Yorktown independently - editors should note the double claim.

Where it says it works

York County, VA, marketed almost entirely as Historic Yorktown. The site identifies itself as "York County Tourism" run by the county's "Department of Economic & Tourism Development" at 121 Alexander Hamilton Boulevard, Yorktown, Virginia 23690 (PO Box 532). Its own visitor material describes "Historic Yorktown" as "a living, working town with restaurants, shops, and local residents" and "a peaceful riverside village" with battlefields, museums, galleries, dining and a beach, 14 miles from Williamsburg via the Colonial Parkway. No explicit county-wide service statement (naming Grafton, Seaford or Tabb) is published.

Verification note

PHONE AND EMAIL BOTH DIFFER FROM THE FILE: the published general number is 757-890-5900 (TDD 757-890-3621) and the general address is tourism@yorkcounty.gov; the state's (757) 890-3525 and olsen@yorkcounty.gov appear nowhere on the site. NO STAFF ARE NAMED, so Kristi Olsen-Hayes is not carried over. The office's own contact page names it only "Department of Economic & Tourism Development." COVERAGE OVERLAP: Visit Williamsburg (DMO-132) also claims Yorktown as one of its three destinations. Virginia confirmed - York County VA / Yorktown on the York River, not York, PA or York, ME.
